Jackie, Radiesse® Patient

"After I retired I did a little something for me, I had some facial filler. What a difference it made and then it snowballed into dieting and exercise. Who knows what’s next! Most importantly I’m having fun and feeling great."

What Is Radiesse®?

Radiesse® is a dermal filler made by BioForm Medical that contains calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres that are suspended in a water-based gel. It is preferred by plastic surgeons and dermatologists for its ease of use, biocompatibility and long-lasting results.

Who Can Benefit?

While Radiesse® can be used to treat virtually any wrinkle, it is FDA approved to specifically treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Plastic surgeons also commonly use Radiesse® in facial augmentation and contouring.

The Radiesse® Treatment

Before your plastic surgeon begins the Radiesse® procedure, your face will be thoroughly cleansed. A small amount of topical lidocaine and an ice pack may be applied five minutes before and after injection. When beginning, your plastic surgeon will inject the Radiesse® solution at the sub-dermal plane using a fine needle.

The injection technique may include fanning, linear threading or crosshatching. When injected, you will see the results immediately. The injected particles act as scaffolding for the collagen in your skin and are slowly metabolized in the months that follow. After the injection, your plastic surgeon may massage the site to promote smoothness.

Radiesse® Aftercare

After your treatment you may experience some redness, swelling, itching or bruising, so you should keep your head elevated and apply ice, as needed. The results will last for about a year, and most patients return for additional Radiesse® treatments within 12-18 months.

The side effects possible with Radiesse® are rare, but may include mild irritation, edema, swelling, itching, discoloration, or tenderness at the injection site. These may be minor and should dissipate within two days after treatment.
