Body Lift in North Carolina

Just as the name implies, the body lift can make a distinct improvement in your overall body shape and appearance. It is often used to correct the excess skin that gathers around the inner and outer thighs, buttocks, hips, and abdomen after massive weight loss, often for those who have lost half of their weight.

What Is the Body Lift?

Also known as the belt lipectomy, body lift surgery involves streamlining and reforming the midsection in order to gain the natural lines and contour of the abdomen and waist. This is an extensive surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess skin from the lower body. For this reason, it is important to find an experienced and trained plastic surgeon in Raleigh, NC in whom you can have complete confidence.

Who Can Benefit?

The body lift surgery in North Carolina is a substantial surgery, and is therefore not suitable for patients who are unmotivated. Ideal candidates are already at a stable weight or are finished losing weight. They suffer from large skin folds that gather in the abdomen, hips, thighs and buttocks, and cause discomfort and even hygiene issues.

The Body Lift Procedure

Because of the extensiveness of the procedure and the complications that may arise, the body lift procedure is performed in a hospital setting using general anesthesia. The duration of the surgery is estimated at about 2 to 5 hours.

Once the incision areas are marked and the anesthesia administered, the surgeon will place the incisions in the natural folds of the skin in the lower body where they can be as concealed as possible. The excess skin is removed, the underlying tissues are tightened, and the remaining skin is redraped. Treatment proceeds circumferentially, and may even be done in stages. If necessary, liposuction is used as needed for fat removal and contouring.

Body Lift Aftercare

Most individuals are on bed rest for the first 24 hours, with ambulation (assisted mobility) beginning on the second day after surgery. The compression garments you are given should be worn for approximately six weeks. Be sure to check with your plastic surgeon for details specific to your procedure. After about one week, the drains that were placed to collect fluid during healing are removed. The approximate recovery time is 4 to 6 weeks.
