Better Breasts: What to Know Before an Augmentation

Have you made the decision to have a breast augmentation? Along with this decision comes a lot of choices. At UNC Burn Reconstruction & Aesthetic Center, we are committed to helping you look and feel your best. Our skilled plastic surgeons are dedicated to their craft. Our goal is to help you with yours.

Keep an Open Mind

Although it is good to have a clear idea of what you want from your breast augmentation, it is important to go into your consultation with an open mind. Our surgeons’ expertise will be invaluable as you make decisions about your augmentation. Listening to your goals, we strive to best understand your hopes for your post-augmentation bosom. Together, along with your surgeon, you can create an augmentation best suited for you and your body. The best results come from an honest, true, and open collaboration between you and your surgeon.

Tip: Having a friend or significant other come to your consultation can be helpful. Not only is it nice to have a second set of ears, a trusted cohort can help you decide what best fits your lifestyle and personality.

Before & After

It is helpful to look at before and after photos. When looking at the photos, make sure to look for someone with a similar body type and breast shape. Things to pay attention to are: height, weight, chest width, and breast size. Not only with this help you decide on what you want, but it gives you a better of idea of what you can expect.

Do I need a lift?

Patients are often discouraged during their consultation to find that an augmentation will not give them the results they are hoping for. With sagging breasts, implants alone are not always enough. By undergoing a breast lift as well as augmentation—you are able to achieve perky, youthful breasts.

To see if a lift may be necessary, try this at home test: Standing in front of a mirror, look at your nipples, if your nipples are lower than your breast crease, chances are you will need a lift.

We understand that you face many decisions. Our surgeons and staff are here for you. Partnering with you, we are happy to answer any questions and promise to work with you from consultation to recovery. Do you have questions? Would you like to schedule a consultation?
