Top Four Temporary Wrinkle Treatments
Though some of us see wrinkles as a sign of character, most feel absolutely helpless in the battle against Father Time. This fact is evidenced by rates of cosmetic enhancement, which have surged in recent years.
Today, more than ever, men and women have a plethora of minimally invasive procedures that can iron out unwanted wrinkles, at least temporarily. Check out the top four according to NY Daily News below:
Microdermabrasion – A mild skin resurfacing technique that can rejuvenate skin affected by fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage and acne scarring, microdermabrasion uses tiny crystals to polish your skin. The result is a more youthful look, but you will need multiple treatments to reach desired results, followed by regular maintenance sessions.
Retinoids – The only topical treatment on the list, retinoids are derived from vitamin A and can be used to treat uneven skin texture, fine lines and pigmentation issues. The biggest downside to retinoids is that they will make your skin hypersensitive to sun exposure. You’ll have to wear an SPF on a daily basis (though you should be doing this anyway…).
Laser Therapy –Non-ablative laser treatments are a new approach to facial rejuvenation. They work by heating up underlying tissue, without actually destroying it. This process stimulates your body’s collagen production to fill in unwanted skin imperfections such as fine lines or wrinkles. Because they do not damage the surface layer of the skin, multiple sessions will be needed to achieve optimal results. More invasive ablative lasers will produce more drastic results but sometimes require significant downtime.
Botox and Injectable Fillers – Injectable treatments like Botox®, Juvederm® and Restylane® remain highly popular because they produce fast results with no downtime. Treatments like Botox and Dysport work by blocking muscle contractions in the forehead and around the eyes. Soft tissue fillers like Juvederm and Restylane can add volume to skin to smooth out wrinkles or restore hollow areas of the face. Most injectable treatments require maintenance every few months to ensure long-lasting results.
